EU home affairs ministers expected to reach preliminary agreement on extension of temporary protection of Ukrainians

The home affairs ministers from all the EU Member States are meeting for the Justice and Home Affairs Council of 13 June in Luxembourg. The agenda includes the continuation of temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine, the EU Internal Security Strategy as well as the return of persons staying illegally in the EU. Finland will be represented at the meeting by Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen.
New legislation to strengthen protection of critical infrastructure and resilience of society

The Finnish Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the Act on the Protection of Infrastructure Critical to Society and on the Improvement of Resilience on 13 June. In accordance with the Government Programme, the act will strengthen national security and the resilience of our society. The act is scheduled to enter into force on 1 July 2025.
Government to tighten conditions for family reunification

The Government will tighten conditions for family reunification, in other words residence permits issued to foreign nationals on the basis of family ties. In its session on 12 June, the Government proposed that the President of the Republic approve the relevant amendments to the Aliens Act on 13 June. The amendments will enter into force on 16 June.
